Set Your Dreams High

One of the things I have learned through the job search is to set your dreams high.

Also, don’t be afraid to change them. Career paths ebb and flow and you as an individual learn more with every curve ball. I went into college wanting to be an environmental scientist and came out a mass communications major with a passion for marketing and event planning. In a different major and heading toward a different career, but it was worth those late nights contemplating how I was ruining my life with changing last minute. It turns out it was the best thing to happen to me!

My parents were both working in tech and doing great in their careers when they met. I used to hear stories about how retirement was wasted on the old and that their dream when they first met was to retire when they turned 50. Well things didn’t go as planned and the economy tanked and that was quite a game changer. Every bump in the road leads to something great. My parents major bump was they had me! My mom stayed at home and just like that what they thought there 20 year goal would be changed. Success is defined in many ways, it may even come in odd shapes and sizes.

Don’t spend time focused on the bad, go out, explore.  Have fun making new decisions and it might end up being the best thing you have ever tried.

One of my favorite quotes is “Aim for the moon and you will end up somewhere under the stars.” Never stop reaching for your dreams, but also be flexible on how you get there. Enjoy the journey.
